The Laundry Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operational efficiency of the ship’s laundry systems, ensuring the delivery of high-quality laundry services. The technician maintains all laundry equipment, including tunnel washers, washer/extractors, ironers, and related machinery, to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety and sanitation standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all laundry equipment, including Jensen and Milnor tunnel washers, Jensen and Milnor washer/extractors, Jensen and Chicago ironers, and associated systems.Â
- Follow manufacturer training and guidelines for all equipment to ensure safety and efficiency.Â
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.Â
- Respond promptly to operational issues and coordinate repairs with vendors or external technicians if needed.Â
- Assist in ensuring laundry operations meet the highest standards of quality, sanitation, and efficiency.Â
- Support the laundry team in daily operations and troubleshooting to ensure seamless service delivery.Â
- Adhere to all safety procedures and protocols, including proper use of PPE.Â
- Immediately report safety hazards or equipment malfunctions to the supervisor.Â
- Stay updated on manufacturer training and best practices related to laundry equipment.Â
- Support the training of other team members on equipment operation and maintenance when required.Â
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by management or supervisor to support overall ship operations.Â
- All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with ISM/ISO, SQM standards, USPH guidelines, environmental, and safety policies. Employees may be required to perform functions across various service areas and departments onboard.Â
Work Experience & Skills:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in repairing and maintaining commercial laundry systems.Â
- Experience with these brands is preferred but not essential, MILNOR, JENSEN, BOWE PASSAT, CISSELL, tunnel washers with automatic drying systems, or MIELE and Speed Queen models. Â
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.Â
- Manufacturer training in these systems is preferred.Â
Language Requirements:
- Good knowledge of the English language, both spoken and written, is required for effective communication and understanding of procedures.Â
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, handle objects, reach, talk, and hear.Â
- Occasionally or frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds.Â
