Lifeguard Staff

Lifeguards provide constant and dedicatedsupervision of designated aquatic areas, engaging with guest by enforcing poolrules in a polite and professional manner. In an emergency a lifeguard isto respond immediately, and appropriately, providing care and assistance astrained. A lifeguard is responsible for reducing incidents andhazards on the pool deck. They are required to attend monthly training andcontinued professional development. Prior to daily operation the Lifeguardswill ensure that supplies and equipment are available and checked, informingthe Manager/Supervisor of any rectifications.

KeyResponsibilities:

·       Maintainconstant and dedicated supervision of aquatic recreation areas. Respondingimmediately and appropriately, as trained, in the event of an emergency.Administer first aid, CPR, Oxygen and AED as appropriate in an emergency

·       Reportingand following up with any hazards, helping to reduce accidents and injuriesaround the aquatic recreational areas.

·        Engaging with guest in a polite andprofessional manner to enforce pool rules. Ensuring that interactions are keptto a minimum while on stand to avoid distraction, at the same time providing apositive guest experience.

·       Itis required to stand and walk at specific zones and designated aquatic areas inall types of weather.

·       Successfullypass and maintain lifeguard qualification and any othercompany required qualifications and licenses. Participate in regular training,including but not limited to; Lifeguard training, CPR/FirstAid, AED and oxygen, recurring in-service training, re-certification, and anyother as deemed appropriate from management.

·       Set-upand verify that supplies and equipment are available during operating hours;maintain and advise Manager/Supervisor of rectifications as needed.

·        Monitor the integrity of our adult’s onlyarea, and assist in minimizing the volume of children congregating.

·       Monitorradio communication with Lifeguard Supervisor and/or Lifeguard Manageror other areas. Communicate with the Bridge and/or the Staff Captain/ChiefOfficer Safety by UHF radio/Dect Phone in an emergency situations or as deemednecessary.

·       Anyother reasonable request by Leadership, including development and trainingclasses.

·       Attendemergency duties/drills as assigned in the ships Emergency Management SafetyPlan

·       Performsother related duties as required. This position description in no way states orimplies that these are the only duties to be performed by the shipboardemployee occupying this position. Shipboard employees will be required toperform any other job-related duties assigned by management.

Qualifications& Training

·       Minimumof 2-4 years of experience as a Lifeguard; experience abroad is an advantage

·       ValidLifeguard Certificate/License is an advantage

Preferred Qualifications:

·       Experienceworking on ships, cruise lines, hotels, or resort aquatic facilities.

·       Additionalcertifications such as BLS (Basic Life Support), oxygen administration, orwater safety instructor credentials.

LanguageRequirements:

·       Havea good command of English to understand and enforce rules in a polite andeffective manner

·       Allshipboard employees must be able to communicate in the English language inorder to understand and interpret procedures, including emergency instructions.This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written andverbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questionsfrom guests, supervisors and co-workers, specifically in the event of anemergency.

PhysicalRequirements:

·       Mustbe physically fit and able bodied to be trained as a lifeguard.

·       Demonstratethe ability to swim 50 meters using freestyle or breaststroke without rest ortouching the pool bottom, retrieve a 10 lb. weight from the deepest part of thepool and tread water for 1 (one) minute without the use of hands.

·       Mustbe able to stand in the sun and endure external elements during workassignment.
While performing the duties of this job, the shipboard employee is regularlyrequired to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with handsand arms; talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job includeclose vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depthperception, and ability to adjust focus.

·       Allshipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergencylifesaving procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs as wellas full visual, verbal, hearing abilities are required to receive and giveinstructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats.
